Education Background
Yu Shuxun, a cotton breeding professor, obtained his Bachelor degree at Huazhong Agricultural University in 1979, and gained his agricultural PhD degree at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University in 2003.

Research Area
He has been working and contributing on the cotton breeding research progress for a long time. He proposed the regional division of china’s cotton by cotton’s growth habit and cultivation features. In addition, he organized the cultivation of transgenic cotton varieties which owning the independent intellectual property rights. Twenty two Cotton varieties were selected under his leadership or with his participation which covering a total land extension of nearly 2.6 million of hectares. He is the Chief Scientist of national “973” and “863” projects, and initiated cotton genome sequencing projects promoting greatly cotton basic research. He was awarded with: one first prize and three second prizes on progress by The Chinese National Science and Technology Department, as well as four first prizes on progress by The Chinese Provincial and ministerial Science and Technology Department.

Owing to his great achievements, now Yu Shuxun is one of the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the director of the State Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology, and the Chairman of the innovative team which specialize in the genetic improvement of early Upland Cotton Cultivars.
